Workshop application
The Tormek Blackstone Silicon (SB-250) has been developed for shaping and sharpening high-speed steel (HSS) and other exotic alloyed steels. It is also capable of touching up tungsten carbide if the tool already has an established shape. However, it does not offer faster steel removal on ordinary carbon steel compared to the Tormek Original Grindstone.

Advantages
The Blackstone's faster material removal is particularly beneficial when shaping tools with large bevel surfaces where grinding pressure is limited, such as planer blades and woodturning skews. The SB-250's grit size of 220 is the same as the Tormek Original Grindstone, but it can be altered to work like a 1000 grit stone with the Stone Grader SP-650.

Thanks to its sharp and relatively small grain, the Blackstone efficiently removes hard steel even at low grinding pressure. This makes it especially popular among woodturners and other professionals working with hard woodturning tools.
Adjustable Grit Characteristics
The SB-250 Blackstone Silicon's characteristics can be adjusted to be equivalent to between 220 and 1000 grit, offering flexibility in sharpening and shaping tasks.
